Mac Grove Painting recently completed an exterior painting project on a striking Victorian-era home along Summit Avenue in Saint Paul, Minnesota — one of the most architecturally celebrated streets in the Twin Cities. Built in 1894, this grand single-family residence presented a technically demanding outdoor paint job due to severe paint peeling across its expansive exterior surfaces. The home’s intricate period details, including ornate trim and decorative woodwork characteristic of late 19th-century craftsmanship, required careful preparation to ensure a durable,  long-lasting finish.

The most significant challenge on this Saint Paul exterior painting project was addressing the extreme paint failure before any new coating could be applied. The Mac Grove Painting crew methodically scraped all loose and peeling paint from the home’s siding and trim, then applied Sherwin-Williams Peel Bond RX as a primer and bonding treatment to stabilize the surface and prevent future peeling. This critical prep step ensured the new topcoat would adhere properly and perform for years to come. Sherwin-Williams Duration paint was then applied as the finish coat, delivering outstanding coverage, weather resistance, and color retention ideally suited for Minnesota’s demanding climate.
